Statistically one in three of us will get cancer at some point in our lives, and it is the continued effort of charities such as Cancer Research UK, one of the world’s leading charities dedicated to beating cancer through research, that have helped increase the survival rate of people affected by cancer by double over the last thirty years.

That is why I have decided to sign up for a night walk which is taking place in Manchester on the 17th April this year, raising money to help Cancer Research UK. The 13 mile walk, which I have signed up for, starts from the City center and will take myself up to Withington and back, whilst others who have signed up for the 26 mile walk will be taken around from Withington to the Trafford Center before heading to the finish line.

If you would like to take part and help Cancer Research UK (or perhaps walk for another charity) you can sign up by clicking here. Alternatively if you would like to sponsor me to reach my goal of £200, then please click here to be directed to my sponsorship page.

Thanks

Following Suzanne’s recent proposition of Cuckoo getting involved in some altruistic face-fuzz development in support of the Everyman ‘TacheBack campaign, I am currently sitting pretty on a week’s worth of ‘tache on my upper-lip.

While my ‘tache is not yet as impressive as Alex’s (he’s got a few days on top of my growth, and he’s been blessed with ginger-free facial hair), I already feel infinitely more masculine and authoritative.

I’ve also noticed that women have been eyeing me on the street longer than they usually would. Whether this is because they’re trying to decipher if my new lip fashion is intentional or a shaving mishap remains an unknown… but so far, my moustache adventure has been quite liberating.

Artist impression of final tache growth:

Possible final 'tache. Probably needs more ginger.

I can’t believe how quickly this summer has past by. I recall (with some sad commuter joy) how quiet I found the morning rush hour roads at the end of July and how eternally jealous I was of all my school teacher friends…
That said, sunny August is almost at an end, which leads me onto the topic of my post…

Cast your mind back to the Cuckoo/NABS 10k training, where some of my esteemed male colleagues donned facial furniture for the purposes of a good cause…Well, September marks the month of TacheBack and I put forward a challenge to them (if they so dare) to embrace their whiskers for another good cause (one that is particularly close to their hearts and indeed their undergarments…)

Unlike before, this doesn’t require any physical exertion…any running apparal or to even quit to nicotine, Ollie…The only requirement is simply down the razor for a month and get sponsored to sprout some upper lip hair.

More than a month's growth...?

Since 2003 TacheBack has raised nearly £1 million for the Everyman Male Cancer Campaign which funds research into prostate and testicular cancer and this year they want to hit the £1.5 million mark…. so come on James, Phil, Ben, Alex, Ben, Ste, Steve, Ollie and Shaun, get growing…?!
this time you really have a valid reason to grow that amigo, handlebar or even the fu manchu you always dreamed of…

Just think… they’ll be in place and fully matured, come Dodgeball day…

(Unfortunalty being female, I am regrettably unable to join you in the facial fur fun…)

You can also pick up more info on Facebook and Twitter…

I along with 6 others at Cuckoo design are running the Manchester 10k in May. For anyone reading this that doesn’t run…..that’s really quite far. My pain is caused not by the hard training, early mornings or nicotine cravings but by the constant mockery from my colleagues. Apparently tread mill running isn’t “proper training”! “Proper training” is road running!! Not what I signed up for, but pier pressure has got the better of me, so I start my “proper training” Saturday…on the cold, wet and hazardous streets of Manchester.

So if you happen to be in town on Saturday, taking a leisurely stroll, looking in shop windows, tasting the delights of the big city and you see a tall, skinny, pale guy with a face of death crawling by, give him a cheer.
