It’s a common problem if you are a dog owner….

After your pooch has been scamping around a muddy field having lots of fun, how are you supposed to welcome him/her back to his/her favourite spot on the persian rug in front of the fire when he/she stinks of cow pats and looks as if he/she still has the contents of the said muddy field attached to his/her (normally glossy, sweet smelling) coat….?

Answer: Put him/her into a “Dog Wash Machine” at Pet World Joyful Honda in Tokyo, Japan…. a tear-free shampoo, rinse and blow dry in the 30-minute course, bargain price of 1,000 yen..(that’s about £7.00) ….plus the price of your air-fare, of course.

Dog-o-matic...

It strikes me as odd some of the things that animals have in common with humans. But what strikes me as even odder, is the things that set us apart. Take for instance that butterflies taste with their feet!

Now I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t particularly like to taste with my feet. All I would be tasting during the day would be socks, and I don’t presume that they would be particularly appetizing :S

Did you know though, that a koala bears fingerprints are virtually indistinguishable from a humans. In some cases, the resembalence between the species fingerprints have even been confused at crime scenes!!

Every day (or night would be more precise) we sleep. The average person falls to sleep within seven minutes of switching off their light and slips into a REM cycle (or Rapid Eye Movement) in which, you begin to dream.

But did you know that amazingly we will forget 90% of our dreams once we have been awake for ten minutes?

People who have been born blind cannot see images when they dream, instead they feel emotions and their other senses, whereas people who have become blind after birth can still see images whilst they sleep.

It is also common belief that people have experienced at least one precognitive dream or have experienced déjà vu. The percentage of persons that believe precognitive dreaming is possible, ranges from a massive 63% to 98%.

If you want to remember more of your dreams, it is recommended that you get a dream diary. This is a notebook that you can keep close by, and write in it as soon as you wake up when the dreams are fresh in your head.

Following on from a blog I did last week about dating site ‘Beautifulpeople.com’ I read an interesting fact this week about dating sites. Apparently, Thirty-five percent of the people who sign up to a site with the intention of dating, are already married!!

Shocking isn’t it?

‘Are you married’ isn’t usually a question one thinks to ask when meeting someone on a first date, so good luck to all those singleton’s out there who are actually looking for love online this year!

Hello all and Happy New Year!

If you read my last Blog about New Years Eve traditions and took part in wearing red underwear to entice new love in the New Year, why not comment and let me know how successful that has been so far!

For the first ‘Did you know?’ of 2010 I wanted to share with you something that may be of use. I think the resolution I hear most apart from losing weight is to stop smoking. But did you know that when you stop smoking, it becomes very easy for you to pick up another vice to compensate? lots of people turn to food because as you stop smoking, your taste buds come alive and food starts tasting a lot better.

The best way to make sure you don’t pile on the pounds as a result of quitting, is to carry chewing gum with you. Drinking lots of water also helps because your body will be craving it.

Hello all!

Christmas is only a few days away and already I have shared with you facts about Santa and White Christmases, so I shall move on from Christmas and look to the New Year for the final ‘little did you know’ of 2009.

Many traditions are held for New Years, including linking arms and singing Auld Lang Syne at midnight, and also first footers who are supposed to be males are to enter the house bearing gifts of bread and coal. Red heads and women are not supposed to be the first footers into a house, neither are blond men as these are considered to be bad luck. Seems slightly mean and sexist, but that’s the tradition apparently.

The tradition that I have decided I would like to try this year comes from Mexico. Did you know that in Mexico, to wear red underwear on New Years Eve is said to bring you new love in the New Year?

Purely for scientific purposes of course I think I will test that theory out, and let you all know if it works this time next year!

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Santa Claus is coming to Town!

In exactly one week tonight, Santa will pack up his sleigh and travel from his home at the North Pole, all around the world spreading joy to the hearts of many a child.

But did you know that because of the different timezones around the world and the rotation of the Earth, Santa actually gets 31 hours on the 24th of December to deliver all of his presents!? That’s a whole 7 hours longer than we get on that day!

I don’t know about everyone else, but I am definitely dreaming of a white Christmas!

But did you know that for England to declare a white Christmas, only one snowflake has to fall on the top of the London Weather Center on 25th December…

How bizarre!

Fingers crossed for this year!

Alcohol!

Many of us drink it, but did you know that 10% of the Russian government’s income comes from selling vodka?

I know that many of you would have been disappointed after missing out on some fun facts last week due to my illness, so this week I am treating you to not one but two facts to blow your mind and expand on that randomly pointless knowledge that the world has to offer.

My first fact this week is in regards to the illnesses that are floating around at the moment.

Did you know that at the North Pole, you cannot catch a cold in Winter? you could also not contract the flu, or most other viruses and germs because the temperature is so low that none of the standard Micro-organisms can survive.

And the second fact is something that I read recently and don’t really want to believe but, did you know that banging your head against a wall uses 150 calories an hour? Even if bangng your head repeatedly against a wall did use up 150 calories, I don’t think you would be in any state to enjoy the benefits, so please don’t use this as an excuse to ignore the warnings about a loss of brain cells being caused by such activities.
