Last night, Team Cuckoo squared off in our first ‘proper’ 5-a-side match against the footballing force that is The Co-operative…

Now, Football (aka The Beautiful Game) has taught us that hard-graft, unyielding preparation, ingenious tactics and healthy dollop of skill can turn even the poorest team into champions… but Team Cuckoo decided to ignore all that and just play 6 players instead of 5.

Team Cuckoo: may need more training.

Team Cuckoo: may need more training.

Shame then, that our inspired scheme still resulted in us getting stuffed 18 – 13 (or there abouts) yet we still managed some wonderful moments, particularly with our very own Alex Darke scoring about 6 goals in as many minutes, Shaun Lloyd nearly breaking all of his fingers and Ben Nam fearlessly throwing his face into the path of a speeding ball for the sake of the team.

So, in first stop of Team Cuckoo 5-a-side footballing tour, we may have lost, but we learned something about ourselves:- mostly, that we should pass more, not be exhausted after 15 minutes, and we should really try to score goals more than the other team.

Go Team!

Just as Manchester waves goodbye to one record-breaking £80million footballing goliath, it welcomes a group of another slightly less talented titans.

Team Cuckoo: 5-a-side titans?

Team Cuckoo: 5-a-side titans?

To explain; Cuckoo Design have recently decided to have a go at this football malarkey… it being summer and all and the excuse of ‘it’s too cold!’ no longer being as valid – we’ve decided to get ourselves trained and fit for competing in various 5-a-side football bouts. First up, Cuckoo face off against the might of The Co-operative boys… a team who actually know how to string passes together and can successfully dribble and shoot without falling over or complaining that they’re now too tired.

In short, Team Cuckoo may be in over their heads, but we’ve been handed some suspiciously West Ham-esque team shirts by Steve ‘West Ham’ Wheatley, and we may now feel slightly more professional.

Team training number 2 is arranged for tonight, so for the next few days, expect the limping and groaning to more prevalent that usual on the Cuckoo Cam.

Occasionally you do something as a business that not only are you proud of but that actually gets some media attention. This latest piece in today’s Manchester Evening News is a perfect example of the positive impact a little recognition can have. It’s good news all round, valuable contract win, good for your profile and great for morale. So much so you can’t wait for the next one! And it can’t come soon enough for me. You see I’m itching to see what Cuckoo-related headlines they’ll come up with next.

So far we’ve ‘gone Cuckoo’ when we re-branded, new clients & new starters have ‘flown into our nest’, we’ve ‘hatched’ new campaigns & most recently ‘Cuckoo’s Co-op nest egg’
